Health And Fitness Update ~ March 10, 2017

I have decided that not only do I want to share my progress with all of those who wish to read about it but I would also like to share with you recipes that I like, exercises that I am doing, and just anything else that comes to mind that I think might help others.

My newest found addiction was stumbled upon while doing my morning cardio on the treadmill.  I had decided that I wanted to find a knowledgable person who could give me some tips on achieving the goals that I wish to achieve.  And where else to find such a person but the glorious land of YouTube.  I found a girl by the name of Jen Heward and I absolutely am intrigued by everything she has to say.  Below is the first video I watched and I was instantly hooked.

The thing I like about Jen (besides her goofiness) is the fact that she gears towards women and how OUR bodies work.  She also has the same troublesome areas of the body that I do which helps in getting to my goals.

She’s also a great motivator.  If there is a morning…like today for instance…that I just want to sit in my chair, binge watch TV, binge eat, and have nothing to do with exercise, I just pull up one of her videos and am instantly motivated.  Even if it’s just a short workout, it’s still doing something.

If you would like to check out her website which has some awesome recipes and supplements just click here.  I recently purchased the BCAA powder in pink lemonade flavor.  It shipped to me in 2 days (even though it said 5-7) and I tried it out today and loved it!  Not only does it taste great but it gives you energy without the jitters and helps with muscle healing during and after weight training.

I have been trying to keep to a clean eating lifestyle.  It’s going to take some time and serious commitment, especially on days like yesterday when I had to take 3 kids to dentist appointments at the same time, we were there for nearly 3 hours, and by the time I got home they weren’t willing to wait for me to make dinner.  So to avoid them gnawing my arm off, I ordered pizza.  And of course I had to have a piece of said pizza.  And then I decided that since I was already falling off the wagon I mind as well just get off the whole damn wagon completely and indulge myself into a glass, or two, or entire bottle of wine.

And so I did.

My favorite clean eating recipe of the week was my salmon, asparagus, and mushrooms all done in one pan.

Heat the oven to 425*F

Line a baking sheet with tin foil and spray with cooking spray

Trim the bottoms of the asparagus

Cut the mushrooms (I used baby portabellas) into quarters

Make sure your salmon is thawed.  The best salmon to use for clean eating is wild caught.  They sell it in the frozen section at War-Mart.

In a good-sized bowl mix together about a cup of olive oil, fresh finely chopped garlic, juice of one lemon, onion powder, and cayenne pepper (optional) **likes her food a little spicey like her sex everyday life.

Mix ingredients well with a whisk

Place the vegetables in the bowl until well coated then arrange them onto the foiled pan making sure you have some liquid left for the salmon (which is set aside for now).  I also thought to myself if I had time and would have thought about it,  I would have marinaded everything in the mixture before hand but I will have to do that next time.

Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste

Pop the vegetables in the oven for about 10 minutes

Take the pan out and place the salmon on the pan.  Drizzle the rest of the mixture over the fish and veggies and feel free to season the salmon as you wish.  (I use McCormick’s Steak Seasoning for EVERYTHING…I even sprinkled some on the veggies)  Pop the pan back into the oven for about another 5 to 10 minutes depending on how you like your salmon cooked and then plate and enjoy!

The best things I learned this week are that I should do my weight training before my cardio and that I don’t have to spend hours a day doing cardio.  I also learned that women shouldn’t be afraid to lift heavy.  You will not bulk up like a man unless you take steroids.  In that case you may end up looking like this…

women body building steroids

When I look at that picture I see a man with a blonde wig but who am I to judge what someone wants to look like.  I just want to tone the flabby parts, not turn into the Incredible Hulk.

I also bought some weights and a yoga mat (I’m tired of getting up from the rug in my bedroom to find myself covered in dog hair) from the store this week.  I like to try out some of Jen Heward’s workouts at home before making a fool of myself at the gym.  Let’s face it, no matter how good I think I am doing something right there are times I know I must look like this…

Workout Wednesdays ~ Jan 27, 2016

Workout Wednesdays FitBit fitness health gym exercise

One month in and 18 pounds lighter and I am finally starting to see some real results.  Biggest being my energy level and the fact that I find it hard to sit still much these days.

200.gif

I haven’t been able to get to the gym as much as I wanted this past week due to kiddos being sick and a couple other things throwing off my schedule but I just made sure not to consume as many calories as I do when I am working out harder.

And it’s been 27 days and still going strong without any alcohol. **hopes no one drops by and notices the kids duct taped to the wall**   I have found that even passing the wine section in the grocery store isn’t phasing me anymore…haha yeah right!  Did you actually take me seriously there?  Pffft.  You’re silly.wine grocery store

So I have a little idea in mind that I would like to run across anyone who is currently using a fitness tracker.  I am a competitive person and do weekly challenges with a few friends who have FitBits.  But I thought hey, why not do a little competition between some of my readers or fellow bloggers who have fitness trackers, doesn’t have to be a FitBit, can be any kind of fitness tracker.  Here’s my idea….

It will start on Monday, Feb 8. (That will be the day after Super Bowl when I will be in a self induced food and alcohol coma so you will already have a head start on me)  That gives you a week and a half to decide.  Most fitness trackers have an app or they send you updates with your progress.  Below is an example of what my weekly progress report looks like, that the app sends me via my email, but you can also take a daily screenshot of your results.

FitBit tracker app goals fitness health steps milesI would like to challenge anyone who is interested to do an entire week (feb 8-Feb 14) and see who of us has the most steps or miles at the end of the week.  Each day snap your progress and send it to me either via Twitter(@DomesticMomster) or Facebook so I can keep track of who is winning and post everyone’s progress.  On Monday, Feb 15 send me your final results and I will tally up to see who won.  If you are up for the challenge please leave your twitter handle in the comments, message me on Facebook, or even email me at domesticatedmomster@gmail.com.  Because a little healthy competition never hurt anyone.  You would be surprised at how motivating competing can be.  Are you in?

Last week my friend and I went to our normally scheduled Zumba class and at the end they threw us off by adding chairs to the routine.  It’s called Zumba Sentao.  Next I am just waiting for them to incorporate stripper poles into the program.  I can assure you that no one in my class looked like the girl in the following video.

First of all I could not see anyone wearing high heeled boots in my class.  Especially not me.  I have a hard enough time standing up being coordinated with tennis shoes on.

The following is more the style of what went on in our class…only my instructor, Nora, has about 300 times more energy than this guy.  It is my aspiration to be like Nora…someday.

If any of you have ever thought about trying Zumba I encourage you to check it out on YouTube.  There are so many choices of free ones on there and I am telling you that it is a great cardio workout. Zumba calories fat endurance muscles fitness I get close to 6,000 steps on my fitness tracker in a one hour class.  And when I can’t fit the time into going to the class then I just find one on YouTube to follow. I even had my little monsters doing it with me.

Still not convinced?  Well let me assure you that I used to think I had quite the moves back in the day when I would go dancing at the clubs.  I caught myself in the mirror at Zumba the other day and realized it was the booze I was consuming on those nights that made me think I could dance.  But I still love Zumba.  And I am finding that the more I do it, the more I am getting the moves down.

Today I am going to check out a new class called Cardio Camp.  I have no clue as to what it is but it has the word cardio in it…so I am there!

I am still shooting for my 90,000 steps in one week goal!  I don’t care how long it takes me but I will get it one of these weeks!

Hope to see some of you for the challenge!

Workout Wednesdays ~ Jan 13, 2016

workoutwed1.jpg

I have made it to another Wednesday and sticking to my goal of getting skinnier healthier in 2016.  This last week I have started trying to get to Zumba twice a day/2 to 3 times a week now.  The energy in the class is just so eminent and although I have lost some of that fabulous rhythm I had when I was 20 something…I still have such a good time.

I am also doing a bit of weight lifting.  The best thing about weight lifting is that even when you’re through your body is still burning calories trying to soothe those worked muscles.

As far as what I am eating these days, I am trying to stick to low carb.  I can’t function without any carbs.  I get way too tired and weak so I do try to eat healthy carbs.  I find that when I am in a hurry and need a quick meal, the Lean Cuisines and Smart Ones meals work best for me.  I know they are not that good for you as they are full of sodium but it’s still better than grabbing a cheeseburger when I am on the go.  But if I had my choice, I would eat fish and greens every night for dinner.  Problem is I have a family to feed and they would get bored if I kept feeding them the same thing every night.  So there are a lot of times I find myself making two different meals.

And for those of you wondering….it is day 13 and still NO ALCOHOL!  **applauds herself** I did however start buying the lime infused Perrier water.  They come in little 8 ounce cans and it seems to do the trick when a craving comes on for some carbonation.  I also put fresh lemons in the cups of water that I drink throughout the day.  Plain water gets very boring after awhile.

My husband and I went to our local watering hole last weekend.  The place where they serve all the good beers in frosty mugs from the tap.  The place that we have NEVER been to without ordering a beer.  And we ordered ice teas with our meal.  Even the waitress who knows us looked a little shocked when neither of us ordered our usual frosty mug of hefeweizen.  **wipes drool**

My husband commented on the fact that I used both little cup containers of dressing on my salad.  The dressing came on the side and of course he only used one.  I just looked at him…with the look and informed him that I had given up alcohol and all junk food, therefore I was putting dressing on my salad.  Only I believe there were a few cuss words thrown in there as well.

Let’s face it…my usual for that place was a cheeseburger, fries with lots of ranch or even worse…onion rings, and 2-3 large frosty mugs of beer.  And on most occasions I got a dinner salad smothered in ranch to begin with.  So yeah…I wasn’t concerned with the amount of dressing I was using.  I didn’t even finish the salad.

I also refrained from eating the scrumptious looking pizza at my son’s birthday party nor did I have a single piece of cake.  Sweets have never been much of a problem for me but man do I love pizza!

But don’t worry…I will be rewarding myself for all this hard work on Super Bowl Sunday!  That’s Feb 7…24 more days…but who’s counting right?  🙋🏻

All in all the last two weeks haven’t been that hard.  Couple of temptations but I got through them and gave myself a good pat on the back.

Below is a sum of my FitBit stats for the week…

I encourage all of you to get up and move this week….even if it’s a 20 minute walk or park in the last space at the grocery store.  Just get your bodies moving!

Cheerio!

Life As I Know It Is About To Change

On Monday, my life as I have known it for over 5 years now, is going to change.  All three of my toddlers will be going to school.  My 5-year-old starts kindergarten and the 4 and 3-year-old girls actually started preschool last Monday.  I really don’t know what I am going to do with myself from 8-11:30 without one of my 3 mini-monsters in my presence.

Let me think about that….

I could…

Come back home and go back to sleep.  But that just seems like a waste of such a valuable few hours.  Not to mention that once I am up…I am up.

My Life As I Know It Is Going To Changes #changes #motherhood #humor

Take a shower and get ready in a timely manner.  With 3 toddlers I am lucky to even get a shower let alone have the chance to shave my legs (and various other parts), put real make-up on (instead of just some sloppy brazed mascara), DO MY HAIR (I recently cut my hair that was past the middle of my back, to now the nape of my neck).  This was to avoid the “hair piled in a messy bun” look that I was starting to trademark use EVERYDAY.

Blog.  This is a given.  I will be able to complete a thought without being interrupted 300 times.  That’s 100 times per child and no I am not kidding.  Between them and the horribly slow internet, I am surprised I am able to get any blogging done at all.

Watch TV.  Nah, I’d really rather blog.  Although I have found that I do enjoy my morning cup of Joe while watching some “Good Morning America”.  And usually this isn’t possible because of course the minis want to watch the 50th re-run of “The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse”.  It’s truly sad that I have watched so many of their shows that I now just sing the tunes even when the television isn’t even on.

Workout.  This is already on my list.  Monday starts my body transformation.  Juicing and exercise which I will be blogging all about my disasters failures bitching about progress and sharing my results with you.  If you missed the first part of my “herb uses” you can read about it here.

Life As I Know It Is About To Change #exercise #workout #motherhood #humor

Sit in silence and read.  I have a book that I literally started last year on a family vacation and I am still in the process of reading it.  Probably because most of what I read these days is blogs.  But maybe without all the interruptions I will actually have time to read a book and the blogs.

Make a phone-call.  Have you ever tried to talk on the phone with 3 toddlers?  I actually had a lady put me on hold one day because the sounds of my minis in the background noise, was too noisy for her.  No kidding.

Go to the bathroom without anyone knocking on the door.  If you are a parent, there is no explanation needed here.  If you aren’t a parent, there is still no explanation needed.

Now there will be days that my husband will be off…

**rethinks writing anything about what will be happening there**

Needless to say I just want to enjoy this time that I have never experienced in over 5 years.  Since moving into this house…I have never had any time to myself in the house.  There was one day my husband attempted to take the kids to the park to give me a break…only he came home 15 minutes later because it started to pour rain.  I think I cried a little.

I am sure the first day I will be confused and a little sad…..oh who am I kidding!
